I am a researcher with broad interests in music and screen-media, especially as they interact on/in television and documentary. I am currently pursuing a project (Re-sounding Nature) focused on music and sound in the television outputs of the BBC’s Natural History Unit (1957 – present).

My PhD research was conducted at the University of Bristol under the supervision of Dr Guido Heldt and Dr Angela Piccini. My thesis explores music in the BBC documentary series Arena – on the means by which Arena constructs ideas about music, and on the uses the series itself makes of music.

I have previously studied at Royal Holloway, University of London and at the University of Cambridge, where I completed a master’s thesis on jazz in the films of the French New Wave.

I also play the trumpet in and around the South West. 🎺
